ART man sidelined by race one shunt.

Having been forced out of his first race in the F3 Euroseries, Jon Lancaster will also miss the second race of the weekend at Hockenheim as a result of his spectacular Saturday shunt at the German venue.

The ART Grand Prix driver, making the move into F3 from European Formula Renault, had qualified in an impressive sixth place on the grid, just behind team-mate Jules Bianchi, for the first race of the weekend.

A solid start saw the young Briton climb up to fifth place but disaster struck when he challenged Jean-Karl Vernay for position going into turn six.

Contact with the rear of the Signature-Plus car saw Lancaster launched into the air where it flipped over onto its back, sliding along upside down before rolling back onto its wheels and coming to rest in the gravel trap.

Luckily, Lancaster escaped without any apparent injuries despite the violent nature of the incident, although he was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Having taken a heavy blow to his leg however, the decision was taken to withdraw from race one to allow Lancaster time to recuperate and also allow the ART squad to rebuild the damaged car back at its factory.
