Svendsen-Cook to make British F3 comeback

Rupert Svendsen-Cook will return to the British F3 fold next weekend at Silverstone when he races for the Double R team.

The 21-year-old Briton finished fifth in the championship in 2011,  taking two race wins for Carlin. However, a lack of budget has seen him left without a regular drive this year. He made a sole European F3 Open appearance at Brands Hatch in July and claimed a podium finish.

Svendsen-Cook will replace Malaysian driver Fahmi Ilyas, who has left Double R having struggled for results this term. Svendsen-Cook’s race opportunity with Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt’s team comes after working as a driver coach for the outfit during this season.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have done a deal with Rupert to race with us at Silverstone,” said Hieatt. “He’s a very quick driver, a proven winner in F3 and fantastic to work with – we can’t wait to get out there next weekend.

“In testing last week Rupert was fast and liked the car so we’ve got high hopes for three strong races from him. The deal is currently just for Silverstone but we’d obviously like to run Rupert to the end of the season and also at Macau. We’re confident he’ll put Double R back where we should be.”

Svendsen-Cook will join Australian duo Geoff Uhrhane and Duvashen Padayachee, who will continue to race for Double R in the International and National classes respectively.

As the noise settled down, colleagues, well-wishers and friends moved from the podium, while Leicestershire skies began to rain down.

It’s a rather unusual sound to bear in the immediate aftermath of a race and not the most welcome. Not welcome at all in fact.
