Brit F3: Blomqvist eyeing British F3 graduation

Formula Renault UK front runner Tom Blomqvist is planning to step up to the British F3 International Series next season.

The 16-year-old son of rally legend Stig took his first series victories at Silverstone last weekend to become the youngest winner in Formula Renault UK history.

“It was a fantastic weekend for both me and the Fortec team,” Blomqvist told Motorsport News. “To win at this level is really special. I’ve been able to convert good qualifying positions into points which is key to the rest of my season.

“What I do next year depends on how the rest of this year goes. But the team is behind me 100% and if I can keep driving like this F3 is a realistic option.”

Fortec Motorsport team boss Richard Dutton says that no decision has yet been made about the youngster, who currently sits fourth in the championship standings just 20 points adrift of the leader.

“We will see how the next few races pan out and then make a decision on Tom’s immediate future,” Dutton said.

“The whole team has moved forward throughout the year and Tom’s performance has shown distinct improvement too.”
