Brit F3: Grubmuller sets testing pace



Austrian Walter Grubmuller continued to impress as he topped the British F3 testing times at Snetterton yesterday.

The Hitech Racing driver, who took a maiden series victory in the last round at Hockenheim, topped the time sheets with a best of 1:01.434 in his Dallara-Mercedes, a tenth quicker than the Volkswagen-powered machine of Carlin Motorsport’s Daniel Ricciardo.

Ricciardo’s team-mate Max Chilton was third, just two, one hundredths slower, with Fortec’s Riki Christodoulou fifth.

Series returnee Philip Major was 16th in his first appearance for Carlin, while Gabriel Dias topped the National Class time-sheets, setting an impressive time of 1:01.920, good enough for 11th overall ahead of several International Class runners.

Malaysian Jazeman Jaafar and Brazil's Pietro Fantin have been confirmed as Carlin drivers for thje 2012 British F3 campaign, completing the Farnham-based outfit's five-man line-up.

The new-for-2012 Dallara F3 car went on display to the public for the first time at the Autosport Show yesterday.

Harry Tincknell will switch to the Carlin team for his second season of British F3 competition in 2012.

Jack Harvey will return to the Carlin team for next year’s British F3 championship.

Felix Serralles will step up to the British Formula 3 International Series with Fortec this season, the team announced today.
