Phillip Major has joined Carlin Motorsport for the remainder of the British F3 season.
The Canadian is the team’s full-time replacement for Irishman Oliver Oakes who split from the squad after the opening two rounds of the season. Carlin handed F2 racer Robert Wickens a one-off drive for the last round at Hockenheim earlier this month, but will now slot Major into the line-up alongside regular drivers Max Chilton, Henry Arundel and Daniel Ricciardo.
Major raced in the championship last season for Fortec Motorsport, finishing 18th in the standings with a best result of eighth. He also competed in Formula BMW USA.
“I have been given a fantastic opportunity to race for Carlin Motorsport and I’m really looking forward to racing with the team,” said Major. “It was tough sitting out the start of the year, but now I’m even hungrier to get back to racing.”
Carlin director Martin Stone added: "We're very much looking forward to Philip joining the team at Snetterton. He has already missed part of the season, but we'll be working hard to help him get up to speed quickly.
"There are still some great circuits to come on the British F3 calendar and we'll be aiming to get Philip near the top as soon as possible."
