Carlin sign Chilton.

Max Chilton joins Carlin Motorsport for the 2009 British Formula 3 Championship.
Reigning British Formula 3 Champions Carlin Motorsport will charge the defence of their title in 2009 to Max Chilton, the team has confirmed.

Carlin, which annexed the top three positions in last year's championship with Jaime Alguersuari, Oliver Turvey and Brendon Hartley, are expected to run several cars in 2009, although it is Chilton that will front their charge for another title.

Although he is only 17-years-old, the BRDC Superstar is already a 'veteran' of two F3 seasons having made his debut with Arena Motorsport in 2007 before joining Hitech Racing this year.

While his season with the '07 champions didn't yield an elusive race win, Chilton did make history by becoming the youngest driver to score a British F3 pole position, a feat he managed on two occasions. He also scored a pair of podiums on the way to tenth in the overall standings, as well as the fastest lap at the prestigious F3 Masters of Zolder event.

With Carlin managing 14 wins and 36 podiums in 2008, Chilton is delighted to be joining forces with the most successful team on the British F3 grid.

"In 2008 my aim was to be amongst the top runners but next year I'm in it to win. I'm still young but I think I have enough experience to be a serious contender for the title. It's all down to me now, I know Carlin have the experience and resources to help me succeed in 2009."

For team principal Trevor Carlin, Chilton's arrival in the team gives him confidence Carlin can repeat their title win in 2009.

"We've been watching Max's progress for some time and we've seen him develop from a young driver still very much in the learning process, to a very talented and quick driver capable of challenging for race wins.

"Max showed great potential last year and I think with our help and support he will be a very strong contender in the 2009 championship. We've been very pleased with his performance in winter testing so far and I'm delighted he will be racing with us next year."
