Brit F3: Brundle makes F3 switch with T-Sport

Alex Brundle will switch from Formula 2 to British F3 this season after signing with T-Sport.

The 19-year-old son of ex-F1 driver and pundit Martin, will race one of the team’s Volkswagen-powered Dallaras.

“I am very motivated by the opportunity to race in British F3,” said Brundle, who began his single-seater career in Formula Palmer Audi in 2007 and finished 19th in F2 last season. “I love the car and this will be the first time in my motorsport career I have had the benefit of a team around me. I am going to work hard to use that new-found support to turn in some strong results for T-Sport.”

Brundle’s father, Martin, who was runner-up in British F3 in 1983 and won seven races in the category before graduating to F1 with Tyrrell the following season, believes the series is still the ideal place for young drivers to learn their trade.

“Generations of drivers have benefitted from competing in British F3, including myself with Volkswagen power,” he said. “With 45 days on track and 30 races Alex will learn a great deal as he experiences a team environment for the first time. I like the attitude and approach of the T-Sport team and I’m confident about Alex’s rookie F3 season.”

T-Sport ran Brazilian Adriano Buzaid to sixth in the overall British F3 standings last season and Team Principal Russell Eacott is looking forward to working with Brundle in 2010.

“We’re delighted to have signed Alex,” he. “Having met him we have seen his enthusiasm and desire to race. Formula 3 is all about learning and Alex wants to be in an environment where he can learn to have a one-to-one relationship with his race engineer and really attack the technical challenges of F3.”
