Malvern gives new Formula Ford maiden outing

British Formula Ford champion Scott Malvern has given the series’ new car its maiden public test.

The Essex-born racer got behind the wheel of the ‘EcoBoost’ machine during last weekend’s Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch. The car uses a production-based 1.6-litre direct injection, turbocharged engine mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox and is the first racer of steel spaceframe construction in the world to comply with the FIA's rigorous safety standards.

"The new car is really very good," commented Malvern. "It's nicely balanced and feels good to drive straight out of the box, with loads of potential. I'm looking forward to helping with the development and fine-tuning the details."

"The new Formula Ford was well received, not least by Scott, who thoroughly enjoyed driving it," added championship promoter Sam Roach.
