Formula Ford star Malvern leads McLaren Autosport Award nominees

British Formula Ford star Scott Malvern leads the list of nominees for this year’s McLaren Autosport BRDC award.

The 22-year-old makes the six-man shortlist after a season in which he has enjoyed unprecedented success in the British series, as well as easily capturing Formula Ford's EuroCup. Malvern’s 17 domestic wins this season represent a new British record, with 13 coming in succession as he went undefeated between April and August.

And, for the second year in a row, he finds himself on the shortlist for the prestigious young driver award. Malvern and his fellow finalists will be assessed at Silverstone next month with the winner receiving £100,000 and a McLaren F1 test drive.

Also on the shortlist are Fortec Motorsports’ Formula Reanult UK stars Alex Lynn and Oliver Rowland, who sit first and third in the standings respectively. Formula Renault BARC points leader Dino Zamparelli, ADAC Formel Master racer Emil Bernstorff and German F3 race-winner Tom Blomqvist complete the nominees. Blomqvist, who like Malvern finds himself nominated for a second time, has missed the end of the 2011 season after breaking his back at Lausitz.

The winner will be announced at December’s Autosport Awards.
