Jon Malvern looking to follow champion brother Scott in to British Formula Ford

Jon Malvern is hoping to keep the family name in British Formula Ford competition next season by landing a deal to contest the championship's Duratec class.

Malvern's brother Scott steamrolled the series this year, taking a record-breaking 18 wins - including 13 in a row between Oulton Park and Zandvoort - to wrap up the title with ease.

Now 19-year-old Jon is hoping to follow in his brother's footsteps after testing a Duratec-powered Ray and Scott’s championship-winning Jamun Mygale at Formula Ford's sampler day.

“I have been watching Scott from the sidelines for three years now,” said Jon, “so when this opportunity presented itself I leapt at it. I would love to do Formula Ford and see how competitive I can be.”

Malvern's father Dominic explained that Jon would enter the Duratec class - which will see old-spec cars run alongside the new Eco Boost machines - as an first step into single-seater racing.

“With Scott’s career taking off I have the time now to focus on Jon’s ambitions," said Malvern Snr.

"Hopefully we can put together a budget which will allow him to race an older car next season as an introduction to single-seaters, and we’ll see where we go from there.”

Scott meanwhile is evaluating his next step up the motor racing ladder, following successful maiden tests in FIA Formula Two and the GP3 Series.
