AutoGP: Romanian street race added to 2011 Auto GP calendar.

Auto GP will race in Romania next season, with a street event in Bucharest joining the series’ 2011 calendar.

The 3-kilometre track, known as Bucharest Ring, was created by F1-circuit designer Herman Tilke, and hosted FIA GT races in 2007 and 2008. It includes a section running alongside Palatul Parlamentului, the home of the Romanian parliament, and is set to host a race in July of next year.

“We are really happy with this agreement," said Auto GP organiser Paulo Coloni. "It is something that will give us the chance to create a unique and prestigious event, a race that through the years could become a real classic.

"Besides this, street circuits are always very special, because drivers have to give their best with a very small margin of error, a situation that usually allows the best talents to shine. This is exactly what Auto GP is for.

“This is the first step towards 2011, a season that will see Auto GP grow after a good 2010 campaign,” added the Italian.

The inaugural Auto GP season has seen the series take in races in Italy, France, Belgium and the Czech Republic, with a Spanish round (September 25-26) and a second Italian event (October 2-3) set to conclude the championship.
