Latvala extends lead

Jari-Matti Latvala widens the gap on Wally Rally GB

Jari-Matti Latvala began day 2 of Wales Rally GB with a 12 seconds lead to Ford team-mate, Petter Solberg. A clean start to Saturday and a pre-service stage win later and Latvala is now 22.2s clear.

Ford continued its domination of round 10 of the season this morning with 4th place overall, Mads Ostberg setting best time on SS7. Latvala came back on the following stage to take his fifth scratch time of the event. Petter Solberg will have to keep an eye on Sébastien Loeb, who scored Citroen’s first stage win of the rally. Loeb is 3.9s behind Solberg in the fight for second. Ostberg is too in the hunt at 12.2s to Loeb and over 30 seconds ahead of Mikko Hirvonen. The Finn has been frustrated and declared that he’ll take his driving to the absolute limit in the afternoon.

Ott Tanak is nearly 20 seconds ahead of Evgeny Novikov in the battle for sixth place. Thierry Neuville, Matthew Wilson and Martin Prokop complete the top ten.
