WRC: Michelin Show WRC interest

Tyre manufacturer Michelin are in talks with the World Rally Championship, with a view to being the official tyre supplier for the championship.

Michelin were last involved with the WRC back in 2005 and since then have remained in rallying with BF Goodrich, whilst Pirelli have been the tyre suppliers for the cars taking part in the WRC.

Pirelli’s contract runs out at the end of the current campaign, and Nick Shorrock, Michelin's competitions director, has shown keen interest in joining up with the WRC once again telling Autosport.

"There's a process involved with the FIA and the first part of that process is to inform the FIA that we want to supply tyres,” he said. “We have done that and I can confirm it is Michelin [not BF Goodrich] which we hope will be competing in the WRC.

"Now we have to wait until September 13, when the FIA will let us know the tyre companies which are to be permitted to supply tyres. And then we have to find out if anybody wants to run with our tyres."

Pirelli still might show interest in renewing their contract with the WRC but have not done so yet, and a spokesperson from the Italian tyre manufacturer told Autosport.

“Pirelli is still considering its options. We will let you know our decision as soon as possible."
