WRC: Motors TV backs Muller's WRC debut

Yvan Muller will make his World Rally Championship bow on Rallye de France this October.

The former World Touring Car champion will campaign a Motors TV-backed, ex-Petter Solberg Citroen Xsara on the Alsace-based event alongside co-driver Gilles Mondésir.

The Frenchman, who also has experience of the Andros Trophy and Dakar Rally, has been given special permission by WTCC employers Chevrolet to contest the season’s eleventh round.

“If circuit racing has become my speciality, I believe it is important to welcome new experience. It's a definite plus,” said Muller.

“Rallying at this level has always been something I would have liked to do, and today I'm very proud to see the Rally of France project become a reality. It's also a great chance to re-discover the roads around my own home!”

This season is the first time the event will be held in mainland France after formerly running around the island of Corsica.

Catch highlights of the day’s stages on Motors TV, starting Friday October 1, at 10.20pm.

Mini in doubt - 03/02 - 10:01

Despite an impressive runner-up result on the Monte-Carlo Rally, Mini’s days in the WRC may be numbered.

Championship leader and the only non-Scandinavian winner of Rally Sweden, Sébastien Loeb heads a massive list of entrants for the running of the only snow round on the calendar.

Sébastien Loeb never turned a wheel wrong over the five days taking Rally Monte-Carlo to score his 68th WRC victory. The eight-time world champion capped off a perfect week with the Power Stage win and a maximum 28 points.

Sébastien Loeb is one stage away from his 6th Rally Monte-Carlo Rally success and the early lead in the 2012 WRC.
