The TransAfricain will head to Egypt in 2009

TransAfricain organiser Patrick Zaniroli, has announced sweeping changes for the 2009 edition.

Next year the TAC will start in Cairo and conclude at Dakhla, which means the evnt will stay within the Egyptian borders. « We want to propose a new challenge from what we have been faithful to since the start. But we aren’t forgetting the legendary Paris-Dakar route. We will run an event to Senegal every three years”, said Zaniroli.

This short version is being planned to answer the demands of the participants who find it just a bit difficult to commit to a three week long event. The 2009 TAC will run over 10 days from the 8th to the 18of October. The liaison sectors will be no more. The competitors will fly directly to Cairo, while the cars are shipped from Genoa ahead of the start. In these trying economic times, the shorter event is also a question of economy. “We will combine our means and make huge savings in terms of logistics, food services as well as medical and safety concerns.”
