BCCC: Dilworth dominates at slippery Sweet Lamb

Tim Dilworth took his third win of the year at round five of the Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship which was held at Sweet Lamb at the weekend.

Stephen Hiatt continued his excellent year with second place with Gordon Monaghan in third.

Dilworth was the quickest out the blocks on the first run of the event, powering his Peugeot 206 STi to a nine second lead over Martin Gould with Hiatt’s Warrior Indy in third.

Gould remained in second until the fourth run when he rolled his Mattserati on a hairpin. The car did not suffer much damage but over two minutes were lost, dropping Gould down the leaderboard.

At the front of the field Dilworth continued to lead, setting fastest time on all but one of the opening day’s eight runs to take a lead of over a minute into day two.

With Dilworth out in front the main battle was for second and third, Monaghan and Hiatt split by just one second after the first day.

The two crews continued their fight on day two, Monaghan edging into a ten second lead over Hiatt going into the last run. Sadly for Monaghan, CV joint problems on the final run lost him around a minute which meant Hiatt took second at the finish.

Dilworth enjoyed a trouble free run and maintained his lead through day two, finishing one minute 29 seconds up on Hiatt.

"I’m really pleased with the result," said Dilworth. "We had no problems at all, the car was totally reliable all weekend.

"The course was really good, there were some very slippery parts and plenty of opportunities to go off but we kept it together in some tough conditions.

"I really needed a win today to give me a bit of a cushion in the championship going into the last round so it’s great that we achieved that.

"We’ll strip the car down now and check everything over to make sure it is reliable for the final event in October."

In the Trophy class Adam Evans took victory in his Milner R4.
