BCCC: Hiatt wins as Gould hits trouble

Stephen Hiatt took victory at round four of the Britpart MSA BCCC after two days of tough competition in Radnor forest. Tim Dilworth finished second with Gordon Monaghan in third.

Overnight rain made the course very slippery on the opening run and it was round-three winner Martin Gould who took an early lead, finishing seven seconds ahead of Ian Rochelle with Dilworth in third.

Gould continued to build his lead through day one in his Mattserati, setting four fastest times on his way to an overnight lead of 1m 25. After being fifth following run one Hiatt was consistently quick and moved up to second place by the end of the day with Dilworth in third after driveshaft problems on his Peugeot.

Day two kicked off with another fastest time for Gould but it all went wrong on the second run of the day when a track rod end broke leaving the Mattserati stranded in the course. The resulting stage maximum dropped Gould down the leaderboard and promoted Hiatt into the lead in his Warrior Indy.

Hiatt maintained his lead to the finish, taking the win by 17 seconds from Dilworth. "We’ve had a good weekend with no dramas, we don’t quite have the pace of some of our rivals but we kept out of trouble when they had problems," said Hiatt. "The course was really good, a real off road course that tested the crews and was very enjoyable."

Dilworth was happy to claim second after his car problems. "We’ve had a weekend full of trials and tribulations with three broken driveshafts so it’s good to get some valuable championship points."

Monaghan enjoyed a trouble free run to third in his Monaghan RS. "The car has been excellent on what has been quite an endurance event" he commented.

Adam Evans took his second win of the year in the Trophy class.
