IRC: Hanninen crashes out

Early leader crashes out of Monte Carlo rally.

Juho Hanninen has crashed out the Monte Carlo rally on the first stage of the third leg of the IRC season opening event.

The Skoda driver won the opening leg and was leading the rally overall after day one before dropping back to third in the overall standings after a puncture cost him time on day two. A crash on Friday morning’s snowy stage to Eygalayes ended his hopes of a fightback and promoted Freddy Loix to third behind leader Sebastien Ogier (Peugeot) and Toni Gardemeister (Astra Abarth).

Peugeot UK’s Kris Meeke was another to suffer on the same stage as he hit a patch of black ice and crashed heavily, causing significant damage to his car.
