Isachsen takes ERC glory in Austria

Reigning European Rallycross champion Sverre Isachsen has taken a step towards retaining his crown with SuperCars class victiory in Austria.

Starting from pole, the Ford Focus man beat Timur Timerzyanov (Citroën C4) and Tanner Foust (Ford Fiesta Mk7) to extend his lead atop the standings to seven points. The trio now occupies the same order in the championship, with Isachsen seven points clear of Timerzyanov and Foust a further nine in arrears.

Norwegians Frode Holte and Mats Lysen were fourth and fifth on the road in Austria and also occupy those positions in the championship.

Meanwhile it was a disappointing event for British racer Liam Doran. The 24-year-old could only come home ninth and slips to seventh in the standings as a result, albeit in close competition with Holte, Lysen and Finnish racer Toomas Heikkinen.

The next event – the penultimate of the 2011 campaign – takes place at Polish venue Słomczyn this weekend (September 11).
