Timerzyanov retakes European Rallycross points lead with Belgian win

Russia's Timur Timerzyanov scored his maiden European Rallycross win in Belgium last weekend to re-take the lead of the drivers' championship.

With both reigning champ Sverre Isachsen and erstwhile points leader Tanner Foust failing to make the A final at the Duivelsberg circuit Timerzyanov came in the form of Frode Holte and team-mate Liam Doran. The Brit started the final from pole but gave way when Timerzyanov got alongside him at turn one. Heading pre-race instructions not to take each other off Doran gave way.

Doran immediately took his joker lap but found himself stuck behind Andy Scott. Though he would eventually clear his countryman Doran could not find his way past Volvo driver Holte, who hung on to P2 for the duration. Timerzyanov meanwhile was untroubled for the win.

The Russian now holds a slender three point lead over Foust with Holte, Isachsen and Doran all remaining in title contention behind them. The series’ next event takes place at Dutch venue Eurocircuit this weekend (August 13-14).
