BRC: Mallory round replaced

The British Rallycross Championship’s second trip to Mallory Park scheduled for next month has been cancelled and will instead take place at Blyton.

BRC bosses demanded improvements to the Leicestershire venue after the series’ recent meeting was beset by problems with the track and scheduled works have now been brought forward leading to the cancellation of September’s event.

A post-race inspection after the BRC round showed that the 550bhp Supercars had worn down the track surface dangerously close to the circuit’s hospitality area’s main water supply. In addition the venue had already drawn up plans to expand the run-off area on the Sebbe Straight, re-surface the road course and raise, harden and re-grade a section of the rallycross track and surrounding grass areas. All works will now start early.

“The MSA Quaife British Rallycross meeting at Mallory Park on 8th August was a big success and the drivers, organisation and fans all enjoyed one of the best events of the season so far,” said John Ward, Mallory Park’s general manager.

“We could have reinstated the track to cope with the same amount of competitors, but the organisers, Lydden Hill Motor Club, are predicting more entries for this ever more popular championship and together we feel that we would rather address the issue now and start preparations for an even bigger and better events here at Mallory in 2011.

"We would like to thank Lydden Hill Motor Club and the Motor Sports Association for their assistance, support and understanding, as all parties are committed to firmly establishing the MSA Quaife British Rallycross Championship as the premier national rallycross series in the world.”
