Tohill to join British Rallycross field at Lydden

Derek Tohill, reigning champion of the European Rallycross Championship’s Touring Car class, will join the British championship for the opening round at Lydden Hill next weekend.

The 34-year-old Dubliner clinched his first European crown last season in a Ford Fiesta and will use the one-off UK outing as preparation for the opening round of the ERC at the same venue in April.

Tohill will enter his Fiesta, which has recently received a series of updates at IGM in Sweden, in the BRC’s newly-named MSA Supernational category.

“The engine and gearbox are due to go back in the car this week, so it’s all looking good for Lydden,” Tohill told Motorsport News.

“I’ve pushed hard to be ready for the BRC event because it’s an important chance to test on the track we’ll use for the first round of the European championship.

“We’ve got lots of improvements and set-up changes and this will show if they have worked.”
