WRC champ Gronholm set for British Rallycross cameo

Two-time world rally champion Marcus Gronholm looks set to contest the Lydden round of the British Rallycross Championship next month.

Should the deal come off the Finn would drive a Fiesta Supercar for the Olsbergs MSE team with backing from American retailer Best Buy. Team boss Andreas Eriksson ran Gronholm in rallycross in events in 2008, whilst the team has recently fielded a car for him in this year's Global Rallycross Championship. He will also compete in this year's X Games for the Swedish squad.

"It's not 100 percent right not but it looks like it will happen," Gronholm told Motorsport News. "The sponsor is pushing very hard for it.

"I've had two rounds of US rallycross this year and I have the X Games coming up, but I feel happy in the Fiesta. Andreas Eriksson makes a very good car."

The Lydden event will be the fifth on this year's British Rallycross calendar and is set to run on August bank holiday Monday (29th) at the Kent venue.
