BRC: Championship seeks Mallory Park improvements

The British Rallycross Championship has demanded that Mallory Park make improvements after last weekend’s event was shortened due to a number of delays and problems with the track.

The event at the Leicestershire venue began later than billed as there were no rescue units present when practice was supposed to start.

There were then further delays to proceedings as a spectator was hit by a stone thrown up by one of the cars, and the fan needed medical attention.

The third heat had to be cut entirely from the schedule after a 40-minute stoppage to allow for repairs being made to sections of the circuit.

The series heads back to Mallory Park in September and Amy Doran, the Championship promoter told Auotsport: “I’ve discussed it with them (Mallory Park) and made it clear they have to make improvements.”

Circuit director John Ward defended Mallory’s situation though.

“The meeting didn’t start until 11 o’clock because of a problem with the organisers. It should have started at 9.30,” he said. “It’s difficult to lay a rallycross track; there is no 100 per cent formula.”
