BRC: Doran Closes gap on Grant in championship battle

Pat Doran became the fifth different winner in as many races at the latest MSA British Rallycross Championship round at Mallory Park last Sunday.

It was the first victory of the season for defending champion Doran who made changes to the handling of his Ford Fiesta Supercar pre-event. These paid off perfectly as he set the fastest times in the qualifying heats and won both the Supercar A final and Superfinal.

The Winkleigh driver is currently second in the drivers’ championship on 121 points – three behind championship front runner Andy Grant with three races of the campaign remaining.

Grant ran second on the first lap of the Superfinal but was passed by Andy Scott who charged into contention but was unable to catch Doran.

Grant's third place, his third podium visit this season, was enough for him to retain the points lead.

After the race, Doran said: “We've changed the setup and it's like driving a different car, it's fantastic and I really wasn't pushing that hard today. I'm glad to have won one at last; it's turning into a really good championship battle."
