Priddy upgrades Tigra for 2011 BRC

British Rallycross Championship racer Nick Priddy has upgraded his Vauxhall Tigra as he targets an assault on the 2011 Supernational title.

The Somerset-based driver made the switch from rallying to rallycross last year and contested a mix of BTRDA and MSA events. After a learning phase at the beginning of the year, he ended the season as one of the category front-runners.

However, in a bid to become even more competitive, Priddy has upgraded his Honda-powered car as he looks to succeed Julian Godfrey as champion.

“When I bought the car it had a standard engine and a 2.3-litre but we had overheating problems with the big one and switched back to the standard for most of the year,” said Priddy.

“We’ve rebuilt the big engine now and I think we’ve solved the problems. I tested it recently and it feels great. There is a lot more torque and I think the power difference will make up what I was missing last year.”

Despite the fact that Godfrey will not return to defend his Supernational title after graduating to the Supercar category in Liam Doran’s title-winning Ford Fiesta, Priddy still feels the class will be hotly-contested in 2011.

“Even without Julian I think it’s going to be a tough year,” he said. “The class is growing and there’s not much between any of us even though the cars are very different.”
