Rallycross: Mallory Park replaces Croft as season finale

The final round of this season’s Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship has been switched from Croft to a newly built track at Mallory Park in October.

The decision was taken in light of the recently imposed noise restrictions on the Darlington track which means that it can only run a certain number of events per year. To fall in line with that quota, circuit operators the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) took the decision to switch the season finale to another of its venues.

Mallory Park’s only previous rallycross experience came in 1979 when a one-off British championship event was held. Its return after three decades will be greeted with an all-new, purpose-built loose surface section which, along with parts of the existing asphalt circuit, will make up a roughly one-mile long layout.

Championship promoter Amy Doran admitted that Mallory represented the best alternative to Croft.

“We've been investigating every option for rescheduling the final round of the Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship for some time, moving to Mallory Park is clearly the best thing we can do. I'm very grateful to [BARC Chief Executive] Dennis Carter for his help in facilitating the move.”

Because of prior bookings, the move to Mallory Park also means the final round of the Championship will move from its scheduled date of October 11 to October 18. The accompanying Bill Gwynne Rallyscholl Junior Championship and BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship will also appear at Mallory Park. The change of date and venue is subject to the circuit receiving the necessary approval by the MSA.
