Student squad set for VW Cup assault

Student racing squad Team Lunar will make its first foray in to the Volkswagen Racing Cup at next month’s Rockingham event.

The Corby-based team aides 14-18 year olds in gaining GCSE-equivalent qualifications in vehicle repairs and engineering, with racing machinery a key component of their programme. Lunar-built cars have run in MG Car Club events and Trofeo Abarth.

“Since the demise of the Fiat category we’ve been looking for a suitable series,” explained Lunar boss Paul Kneeshaw. “The VW Racing Cup ticks all the right boxes in terms of the level of professionalism of the teams and the engineering of the cars.”

A driver is yet to be announced for the Rockingham event, which takes place over the weekend of September 9/10.
