VW Racing Cup confirms 2012 calendar

The 2012 Volkswagen Racing Cup calendar has been unveiled, with six double-header rounds scheduled for Britain and one event on mainland Europe

Five events will support the British F3 and GT series, taking in trips to Oulton Park, Rockingham, Snetterton, Silverstone and Donington.

The series 'jewel in the crown' comes in the shape of a slot on the DTM support bill at Kent venue Brands Hatch. Sam Roach of championship promoter RacingLine spoke of his pleasure at the announcement.

“We are very pleased indeed to have secured a slot alongside DTM,” said Roach. “It will be great for competitors and spectators and is a nice fit for our tyre partner, Hankook, because it supplies the DTM also.”

“We are hoping to finalise the overseas date in the next couple of weeks,” he continued, “and that will take the championship to 14 races spread over seven events, which we feel is the right number.”
