A new series for FIA-spec pre-1966 Minis has been earmarked for a place on the race programme of the 2010 Silverstone Classic.
The Masters Historic Racing Club has announced a seven-round schedule for the series’ first season. Class prizes for cars over and under 1000cc will be up for grabs.
“We are excited to be able to announce this new series for pre-1966 Minis which has come about thanks to competitor interest – and my own enthusiasm for these great little racing cars,” said series founder Ron Maydon, who also owns one of the eligible cars
“We have had good numbers of Minis racing with us in Masters Saloons and this, coupled with the numbers of cars that were seen in the one-off race at Goodwood last year, led to quite a few inquiries about more Mini-only races. Now that we are confident that there are enough cars and interested drivers out there, we are happy to create this eight-race mini-series.”
Races will be of either 30 or 45 minutes in duration, although two shorter events will be held at July’s Silverstone Classic, which for the past two years has been screened live on Motors TV.
Other rounds are slated for Snetterton, Anglesey, Brands Hatch, Donington, Spa and Mallory Park.
