SC: Silverstone Classic to celebrate 60 years of F1 World Championship

The Silverstone Classic will celebrate 60 years of the Formula One World Championship in 2010.

The annual historic motorsport extravaganza, which for the past two years has been screened live on Motors TV, will host three, high-quality grids racing on the historic GP circuit, as well as displays and features at the Home of British Motorsport.

Invited grids will showcase the development of the sport. The HGPCA pre-61 Front Engine GP race will include early ERAs, Alfa Romeos and iconic Maserati 250Fs, while an HGPCA pre-66 rear engine race will see Coopers, Lotuses and BRMs in action. A ‘three litre formula’ Grand Prix race including cars from Lotus, Brabham, Tyrrell, March, Hesketh, Ferrari, BRM Surtees and McLaren will cater for later machinery.

More modern cars will also be showcased at the event, which is scheduled to take place on 23-25 July, in a special display which will include Ayrton Senna’s first ever F1 car, the Toleman Hart turbo, Michael Schumacher’s 1992 Benetton and Damon Hill’s 1996 World Championship winning Williams Renault.
