Motors TV Live Race Day warmly received by drivers and fans

The first ever Motors TV Live Race Day received a big thumbs up from the motorsport community after the inaugural event last weekend.

The High Speed Television channel screened 14, ten-minute races live from Mallory Park on Sunday, the first time a club event has received live coverage in the UK, and the day drew praise from viewers and drivers alike.

Porsche Carrera Cup GB title challenger Michael Caine was among those watching at home and told Motorsport News: “It was brilliant entertainment. It is easy to lose sight of why we love this sport sometimes but the action from Mallory just reminded you that it is all still out there. There were no pretentions and the commentary kept me amused all afternoon. It was hilarious!”

Another driver watching at home was former BTCC racer Mike Jordan who added: “Even my wife Judy sat down and watched: that’s how good it was. Commentator David Addison said that British club racing is alive and well and that was the proof.”

Action included 2CVs, Kumho BMWs, Saloon Cars, Intermarque League, Tin Tops, Caterham Graduates and Monoposto and was well received by drivers.

The following driver reactions all appeared in this week’s Motorsport News.

Rod Birley, Winner Dunlop Motorsport News Saloons: “There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day and the action on the circuit was amazing too. It adds a certain buzz to the meeting to know that the pictures are being shown live – and it’s got to be better than some of the rubbish that’s on the box. This is proper reality TV.”

David O’Keeffe, Winner 2CVparts.com 2CVs: “Everybody wants entry fees to be lower, but what we’ve had here is a fantastic showcase. It has certainly been a hit with the viewers if you count the amount of calls and text message I have had on my phone since I won the races. It’s the sort of thing national racing needs.”

Keith White, Winner Quaife Intermarque League:
“I have really enjoyed it. I am sure there are people out there who have watched the racing and now realise that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get out there and have some real fun. My brother Colin races in the Ginetta G50 championship so he’s on TV every other weekend. This time it was my turn: I hope he was watching.”

More Motors TV Live Race Days are planned later in the season, more details soon.
