117 cars registered for Ma5da MX5 Championship

An incredible 117 cars have registered to compete in the Ma5da MX5 Championship, which begins its 2011 season at Silverstone this weekend, increasing its status the largest single-class racing series in UK motorsport.

With grids so over-subscribed and an average of 90 cars allowed per event in 2011, the nine rounds will again be broken down into multiple qualifying sessions followed by heats and a final in order to ensure everyone races in either a double or triple header each weekend.

Meanwhile, Ma5da MX5 Cup, which caters for the newer Mk3 model, is set to see grids rise to 34 for its second season, having attained full ‘Championship’ status from the MSA during the winter.

"2010 was a bumper year for Ma5da Racing with the unprecedented entries for the mk1 MX5 Championship and at the same time a full year of development and testing of the mk3 MX5 CUP cars,” said Championship Director Jonathan Blake.

“2011 has boomed once again as the Ma5da Championships continue in both development and popularity. The Ma5da Racing team have continued to deliver high profile with inexpensive racing for the competitors and this is set to be even more popular in 2011. If you have not seen the racing already, you are about to witness some of the best car racing in Europe.”
