MA5DA: Former MX5 champ to switch classes

Former Ma5da MX5 champion Paul Sheard plans to switch to the new Ma5da MX5 Cup for Mk3 models in 2010.

Sheard won the MX5 title for Mk1 models in 2007 before going on to race in the Ginetta G20 and G50 championships. He already has one Mk3 and plans to run a second car under the Paul Sheard Autos as well as a number of Mk1 machines.

“It’s a logical step up from Mk1s and it’s a very good value car to build up,” said Sheard. “The Mk3 has a lot of characteristics that make the old car good to race and over the next 12 months I can see the series becoming very popular.”

The new MX5 Cup, run by Ma5da Racing, is set to run as a separate grid in its inaugural year as the MX5 Championship for the older Mk1 cars has already attracted an entry of over 60 cars.
