Elise Trophy: ‘Fastest man’ on Earth to race in Lotus Elise Trophy

Wing Commander Andy Green, the holder of the World Land Speed record, will race in the Lotus Elise Trophy this season.

The British fighter pilot clocked an incredible 766mph in Thrust SSC in 1997 to break the existing record held by Richard Noble and now the pair will team up for the Bloodhound SSC project as they look to break the 1000mph barrier.

As part of their awareness and fund raising campaign for the record bid, Green is set to race at the Lotus Festival at Snetterton on 13/14 June where he will pilot a Lotus Elise in the LET.

Elise Trophy organisers are hoping to raise at least £10,000 in sponsorship to aid the Bloodhound programme, with Andy’s car to be painted in the official Bloodhound colours. In an attempt to reach that target, advertising stickers are being sold on the car at just £250 each. Each sponsor will not only have a sticker of their design on the car, but they will also receive a signed print of Andy Green with the Lotus Elise race car taken from a painting being donated by the UK's foremost motorsport artist Andrew Kitson.

Aside from his record bids, Green has never raced before and doesn’t even hold a competition licence. He will therefore he will be undertaking some driver training with Car Limits, to get used to the car during April and May, before taking his ARDS test at Brands Hatch in order to obtain the requisite race licence.
