LET: Humphrey to make racing debut

BBC Formula One presenter Jake Humphrey will make his racing debut in the Lotus Elise Trophy.

The 30-year-old, who was named as the BBC’s F1 anchorman when the network won back the rights for live races this season, will drive a production class Elise Sport 160 run by series organisers Lotus On Track at the rounds at Silverstone on 10 October.

Humphrey passed his ARDS test at Silverstone last month and tested the Elise for the first time at North Weald Airfield last week.

“It’s a difficult task for him because the deal came around so late,” said Lotus On Track boss Paul Golding. “We ran into his agent at a race event and the deal fell in place.

“Our main priority is to get him testing as much as possible because the Lotus Elise Trophy is a difficult series to jump into as a novice.

“We have him booked in for a full day’s running with Andy Walsh to get his eye in and then we can assess his potential.”

Humphrey will also receive advice from BBC pundits David Coulthard and Eddie Irvine.
