Rasse takes Lotus Cup spoils at Zolder

Belgian racer John Rasse recorded his first overall Lotus Cup Europe win at last weekend's Zolder event as the series ran in support of a well-attended round of the FIA European Truck Championship.

Rasse's success rewarded a gritty drive in which he overcame an early challenge from Rémi Pochauvin and a late surge by Phillipe Loup. The Belgian is only the second man to win outright with an Exige Cup class car since LoTRDC took over organisation of the series in 2009.

Loup's challenge ended when he oversteered into the barrier but he completed the race, leaving the ever-present Christophe Lisandre to take second and Pochauvin third.

Rasse's cause was helped when Jon Walker was unable to fire up his engine for race two, for which the Brit had high. Fastest in qualifying by a second, he broke Lisandre's resolve in the first encounter, and the pair were joined by Loup on the podium.

Rasse claimed a class victory with sixth place, whilst the Evora spoils were shared by Gregory Rasse and Thierry Verheist. Meanwhile José Vaslin picked up the Production class trophies after prevailing over Paul Pattison and Nigel Ayres.
