GC: G20 champion to step up

Ginetta G20 Champion Mark Davies will step up to the G50 Cup this season.

Davies will stick with the Optimum Motorsport squad which helped him to the 2009 G20 title and will be joined in the team by former Renault Clio racer Stephen Tyldsley.

“I did a test at Oulton before Christmas and it didn’t seem too difficult to drive,” said the 28-year-old who is targeting a shot at the title in his first season of the BTCC-supporting series. “It seems very stable, so I think we can get on the pace pretty quickly. We want to win the championship.”

Last season Davies dominated the Ginetta G20 Championship, which will change its name to Ginetta Challenge in 2010, winning nine of the 16 races on his way to the title ahead of Optimum Motorsport team-mate Andrew Smith.
