DG&B: Package loses Radicals and Minis

Dunlop Great and British will be without Mini Challenge and Radical championships next season after the pair’s defection to MotorSport Vision Racing.

That’s left organisers, the British Automobile Racing Club, searching for replacement series to draft in for next season ahead of a through revamp in 2012.

Radical boss Mick Hyde explained that both championships were disappointed not to be racing at several circuits, while the MSVR roster also offered wider scope.

“We were not happy to be missing out on tracks like Silverstone GP and Brands Hatch because as a racer these are the kind of venues you want to be on,” he said.

“I approached MSVR and they were very positive about it. We will be on a good bill and sitting alongside the Lotus-On-Track Elise Trophy and GT Cup is going to be good for our drivers – these are the kind of championships we want to be alongside.”

Despite their latest additions boosting MSVR’s number of national championships to 19, boss David Scott ruled out creating a package of events to rival that of Great and British.

“We are delighted to be able to include these two new championships, both of which are very well supported,” he said. “Putting the championships together on a package doesn’t necessarily suit everyone, though. Some series may want to go to Cadwell Park, for example, whereas others may not.

“We will alter the roster of series, but it means we will be able to have some very strong race meetings.”

Car racing rookie Max Cornelius continued his seriously impressive debut season in fine style at Castle Combe in Wiltshire over the weekend, 17th/18th July, by taking a fantastic double victory and a further top three finish during the latest instalment of the Autosport Young Guns.

For the third time this year Luke Caudle fell one short of his hat-trick, when after two wins in the Mini Challenge, an issue with his turbo over heating left him trailing Chris Knox.

Somerset teenager Max Cornelius produced a sensational performance at Pembrey to secure a perfect hat-trick of race victories in the Autosport Young Guns – his first successes since graduating to car racing only a few weeks ago.

Luke Caudle kept his title defence well on track with two wins at Pembrey’s 20th anniversary meeting.
