CAROTHERSBRITISH NATIONAL LEGEND SERIES

Legends: JJ Higgins on top in season opener

John Jon Higgins came out on top at the CPC Legends Cars season opener at Oulton Park last weekend.

Higgins managed a victory and two podium finishes from the three races at the Cheshire circuit to take the early championship lead from Stephen Treherne and Lee Fitzpatrick.

Ross Marshall took maximum points in heat 1, beating Higgins into second place and Lawrence Davey into third as he led home the 29-car field, however his weekend got steadily worse as he finished sixth in heat 2 and failed to finish the final race.

Heat 2 saw Higgins lead home from Fitzpatrick and Davey, while Treherne was victorious in the final, with Fitzpatrick second and Higgins third.

Former World Legends champion, John Mickel, marked his return to the UK series with a best finish of fourth in the final race as he improved throughout the weekend, while TV presenter and producer, Paul Musselle, had a best result of tenth in race 1.

It was a busy weekend for CPC, the new sponsors of the Legends series, as they unveiled their new car and championship sponsorship to their 350 strong staff at a special staff event complete with a 'Stig' lookalike! The innovative electrical distributor have also commissioned a two seater car which was used to good effect for staff and competition winners to experience all the fun of Legends racing.

Alison Lockley, CPC Inventory, Marketing and Media Manager commented, "We've really had the full Legends experience this weekend and what a great event it has been for close racing, atmosphere and incidents! It's also been fantastic to have the CPC race team to follow to give us an insight into the racing itself and they also looked after our staff so well. We're looking forward to coming to as many rounds as possible and all our staff will be following it on the television."

The series moves onto Brands Hatch next for round two on the 17th-18th April.
