Hillclimb: Title protagonists share wins

Martin Groves and Scott Moran split the wins in the British Hillclimb Championship at Gurston Down last weekend.

Groves set a new class record before going on to win the round nine run-off, but Moran lowered the record again as he took victory in round 10 in the afternoon.

“Congratulations to Scott for his class record and win,” said Groves. “But I have maintained my overall points advantage although it is far too early in the season to feel much comfort in that position.”

Other notable performances in an entry of over 100 saw Oliver Tomlin net his first ever points in the British championship in his new Pilbeam MP97, while Dave Gardner got his 20-year-old Pilbeam into the 12 run off for the first time.

Chris Merrick stays third in the standings with third and fifth places in the two run-offs, while Paul Ranson had a strong weekend with fourth and third in the Gould he co-owns with Groves. Trevor Willis also had a strong pair of points finishes and sits fourth in the standings.
