Hillclimb: Groves equals Lane record

Martin Groves equalled the legendary Roy Lane’s record tally of 90 British Hillclimb wins last weekend.

Groves drew level with Lane’s record with a victory at Val des Terres in Guernsey on Saturday, the same venue which saw him score his first victory just six years ago in 2003.

Groves currently lies second in the British series and admitted he was thrilled to match the iconic Lane’s record.

“Roy was a great champion and it is nice to be at the top of the tree,” said Groves. “I achieved the record in a shorter time because we have two rounds per weekend, but this milestone is still significant.”

Lane won four titles in his 21-year Hillclimb career, while Groves has three under his belt and is currently battling chief rival Scott Moran for a fourth.
