Hillclimb: Moran's Gould gets a makeover

Scott Moran has rung the changes ahead of the first British Hillclimb Championship round next weekend in an attempt to stay one step ahead of his opposition.

The reigning champion has fitted a paddle-shift gearchange and traction control to his Gould GR61x over the winter in an attempt as he chases back-to-back titles.

The 33 year-old shares the car with his father Roger who shook down the new systems at Curborough sprint track last week ahead of the season opener at Loton Park on April 13.

“Jos Goodyear used a similar system in 2008 without any issues,” said Moran Jr. “It will make the car quicker and it is great to try the new system at my home track because I know exactly where I should be changing gear.

“It will make things safer too – at Loton there is a 120mph kink in the middle of Cedar Straight and you must change gear either before it or in the middle of it, but now I can do that with both hands on the wheel. The traction control will be fitted at the start of the season, but I expect it will take a few meetings to get used to it.”
