CAROTHERSBRITISH DRAG RACING CHAMPIONSHIP

Nicholson gets new 2500bhp engine!

Drag racer Wayne Nicholson has purchased an American-built Chrysler ‘Hemi’ engine to aid his bid to become Pro Modified champion in this season’s MSA British Drag Racing Championship.

The Ossett-based driver, who stepped up from the Super Pro ET class in 2008, has snapped up the 2500bhp powerplant for his 1963 Chevrolet Corvette-bodied car as he looks to improve his best ever time of 6.69 seconds and his top speed of 210mph.

“The leading drivers run about 6.1 seconds and 230mph and I’d like to be up there with them,” Nicholson explained to Motorsport News. “The BAE has got roughly 500 more horsepower, but I’ve got to learn to use that extra power properly.

“The new unit is easier to strip down and maintain between runs. I hope that will leave me more time to concentrate on driving the car.”
