AFOS: GT4 to expand into Asia

GT4 machinery will make its Asian debut this season with a new championship named the GT4 Asia Cup.

The new series will join the Asian Festival of Speed race programme, which already boasts the popular GT3 Asia Series, and will run at six events this year. The series will incorporate two, 40-minute races, including a mandatory pit stop. Teams will be able to choose between a single or two driver entry.

The 2010 season will begin at Sepang in May and visit five of the continent’s best circuits, including the new F1 venue in Jeongnam, Korea.

“We are proud to cooperate with SRO to bring this fast expanding GT category to Asia for the first time to run alongside our already popular GT3 Asia Series,” said David Sonenscher, CEO of Motorsport Asia.

“With rapidly increasing interest globally from drivers, manufacturers and spectators alike, I believe that there is a very strong future for GT racing here in Asia.

“The GT4 Asia Cup will provide a new showcase for Manufacturers and a platform for Teams and Drivers to involve and establish themselves in the new global expansion of GT racing.”
