Prost wins Andros Trophy Super Finale

Alain Prost went someway to erasing the disappointment of missing out on the outright Andros Trophy title to rival Jean-Philippe Dayraut with victory in the season-closing, non-championship Super Finale at the Stade de France last weekend.

The quadruple Formula One World Champion shared his Dacia Duster with Evens Stievenart in the event, which took place on a specially-laid ice surface inside the Paris stadium, and both drivers won their ‘Elite’ finals to take the overall honours.

In the first race, Stievenart held off a determined challenge from another ex-F1 champion, Jacques Villeneuve, who finished just two tenths adrift of the Dacia in his Skoda Fabia. The BMW 1 Series of Jean-Noël Lanctuit was third with Romain Grosjean fourth in his Renault Clio III.

The second event saw Prost take over from Stievenart and secure another win for the Dacia ahead of Grosjean’s replacement, Jean-Baptiste Dubourg, with the Fiat Stilo of Benjamin Riviere completing the top three.

Dayraut didn’t finish the eight-lap race in the BMW Lanctuit had helped to the podium earlier on, while the Skodas of Olivier Panis and Franck Lagorce also failed to see the chequered flag.

The results meant Stievenart and Prost took the overall honours ahead of Dubourg and Grosjean, with Riviere and Philippe de Korsak a surprise third.

“Before the race I told Evens to have fun, but he drove an incredible race,” said a delighted Prost. “For me it was very close. I had to deal with a puncture at the end which really limited me.

“It’s always nice to win in front of so many spectators and this success has come at the right time as we discuss our plans for the 2012 season.”

Christophe Ferrier won the Andros Trophy Electric final ahead of champion Nicolas Prost, with Villeneuve in third and Stephane Ortelli fourth.
