750 MC: Snetterton round-up

The 750 Motor Club held its first meeting of the 2010 season at Snetterton last weekend, with ten of the club’s series in action.

Formula Vee

Autosport journalist Ben Anderson made a great start to the season in the Formula Vee Championship, with his maiden win in his family-prepared GAC 01 in race 1, but was beaten by just 0.02 seconds by Martin Farmer in the second event.

In the opening race Anderson beat Declan McDonnell’s GAC machine with Peter Belsey’s Spyder Mk2 in third. Race 2 was a thriller as the leading five cars slipstreamed each other throughout. Farmer’s GAC, suffering from bent steering, crossed the line just a nose ahead of Anderson, with McDonnell third.

Stock Hatch

Josh Cook fired an early warning shot in the Stock Hatch Championship by winning both the Saturday and Sunday final in his Citroen Saxo.

The 18-year-old, who finished fifth overall last year, edged out Jeff Humphries’ Peugeot 106 Rallye in both races. Joe Ferguson completed the race 1 podium in his Saxo, while the similar car of Patrick Fletcher was third in Sunday’s final.

Saxmax

Scott Moakes and Anthony Whorton-Eales shared the Saxmax victories, their first in the series.

Moakes won from Jordan Wilson and Chris Warburton in race 1, but in race 2 Warburton was disqualified from third, behind winner Whorton-Eales and second place Moakes, for bodywork irregularities. He will appeal that decision but, in the meantime, Aaron Trigwell is promoted to the podium.

Formula 4

Former British F3 National Class, Mazda MX5 and Renault Clio Cup champion, Martin Byford, won the F4 race in his Van Diemen RF97. He headed Andrew Minett’s RF99 by 5.65 seconds at the chequered flag, with Malcolm Scott third in his RF00.

RGB

Derek Jones’ Contour RGB09b dominated the RGB round, taking pole position and finishing more than half a minute clear of John Cutmore’s new Spire. Tim Howard was even further back in third in his Fisher Fury.

MR2

Zac Chapman led home Andrei Bgatov and John Wilson in the opening MR2 championship race and made it a double victory in race 2 as he finished clear of Paul Hinson and an inspired Steve Lumley who grabbed the final podium spot having started 34th on the grid.

Defending champion Mark Jessop didn’t have a great weekend as his engine seized in the second race.

Kit Car

Roger Donnan took a surprise victory in his Crossle 9S ahead of Mark Hobbs in the similar car. The result came in the wake of the retirements of Cheng Lim, Clinton Dorrell and John Dickson, all of whom looked like winning in their AC Cobra clones. Matthew Lewis was third in his MNR Vortx.

Lewis then won race 2 ahead of Andy Hiley’s Taydec Mk2 and Guy Hussey’s RAW Striker.

MR2 Super GT

The inaugural MR2 Super GT event was won by Simon Phillips, who then went on to take victory in the second race too.

Phillips beat Patrick Mortell and Rob Horsfield in race 1 and Horsfield returned to the podium with second in race 2 ahead of John Wilson.

Allcomers

The Allcomers race was won by the new Radical PR6 of Jonathan Wright, with David Whale (BDN S2) in second and Tim Hoverd (Fisher Fury) in third.
