750 MC: MR2 champ withdraws after opening round

The 2009 MR2 champion, Mark Jessop, has pulled out of the 2010 championship after just one race meeting.

Jessop will instead contest the Future Classics series in his AW Tracksport-prepared MR2.

AW Tracksport stamped its authority on the MR2 Championship last year by finishing first, second and third in the championship, and team owner, Andy Waters, will join Jessop as co-driver in the Future Classics series, which is organised by the Classic Sports Car Club and caters for Sports, Saloons and GT cars of the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

"I needed a new challenge,” said Jessop, “and it's always been my dream to race at Spa, which is one of the circuits on the Future Classics calendar."

Waters said: "The regulations give us a lot of freedom to use our technical expertise to develop the MR2 much more but without compromising reliability or breaking the bank. I think we will surprise a few Porsche owners! I am also looking forward to doing some driving too!"

The pair will make their debut this weekend at Snetterton.
