College students to design car for 750 Formula

Students from City College, Birmingham plan to design, build and race a car in the 750 Motor Club’s flagship series, the 750 Formula Championship, this year.

Series organisers have introduced a new ‘College Class’ for 2011 to encourage college and university students to build racing cars to meet the championship’s open regulations, and City College is the first to sign up.

The students involved are all part of the Institute of Motor Industry motorsports course looking to gain experience running a race team.

“The 750 Formula’s College Class is relevant to what the college and the IMI course are trying to achieve,” course lecturer Alan O’Neill told Motorsport News. “We’ve a tremendous mix of youngsters with aptitude for theoretical design, coupled with practically minded people who will fabricate the car.”
