Ma5da: FFord vet to make FVee / MX5 switch

Formula Ford 1600 racer Dave Connor will switch to driving in the Ma5da MX5 and Formula Vee championships this season.

Connor has raced FF1600s for 18 years but has opted for a new direction in 2010. He will drive for Rob Boston’s new two-car team in the popular MX5 Championship and will contest selected FVee rounds in a GAC chassis that he will share with Jenny Anderson.

“Last year was a bit disappointing and I have grown disillusioned with FF1600,” Connor told Motorsport News. “”I loved racing the Mazda because it’s very different to the Ford and it took me a while to adjust to the visibility of a sports car. The racing in the series is very close and it should be a real challenge.

“I’m also doing Vee because Jenny can’t make a lot of the rounds this year so I’ll drive her car while she’s away.”

Connor made his FF1600 debut in 1982 and had scored his best championship result two years ago when he was fourth in the Midlands South series.
